Double Helix Optics Wins Emerging Tech Company Award

TechRochester’s 2019 GREAT Awards Honored Double Helix for Innovation and Growth Potential

Sept. 19, 2019—Rochester, NY—TechRochester held its 2019 GREAT Awards at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center on Sept. 18 to recognize and celebrate technological achievement in the Greater Rochester community. Double Helix Optics was selected as the winner of the Emerging Tech Company Award, judged on innovation/originality, and achieved growth and performance.

Leslie Kimerling of Double Helix Optics wins GREAT Award for Emerging Tech CompanyDouble Helix Optics’ patented Light Engineering™ technology delivers 3D nanoscale imaging with superior depth and precision, unmatched in optics today. The SPINDLE®, the company’s flagship product, seamlessly integrates with existing microscopes, cameras, and other optical instruments, empowering scientists to image and track single molecules in 3D without needing to purchase new equipment. These capabilities have enormous impacts on drug discovery. Researchers using SPINDLE have identified the composition and physical properties of over 75 proteins genetically linked to more than 150 neurological, cardiovascular, and muscular diseases including Alzheimer’s and numerous cancer strains.

The honor comes on the heels of another big win for Double Helix earlier this month at the annual World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC). Double Helix was chosen as the winner of the World Molecular Imaging Society’s 2nd Imaging Shark Tank competition because they showed a strong business model, addressed an unmet need, and demonstrated an understanding of the current market dynamics.

“Our 3D imaging technology is already enabling new discoveries in a range of scientific fields, from neuroscience to cancer,” said Leslie Kimerling, co-founder and CEO of Double Helix Optics. “It’s an honor to be recognized for the power and impact of our technology in advancing disease discovery and therapeutic development.”

Double Helix Optics established component and assembly operations in Rochester, NY following its first-place, $1 million win in the 2018 Luminate NY Demo Day competition.
